Rivers Youth Assembly Honours RSIEC Boss Over LG Polls
A coalition of youths, the Joint Assembly of Rivers Youths (JARY) have conferred an award of excellence on the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electorial Commission (RSIEC), Hon. Justice George Oniyi (Rtd) for his effort in conducting peaceful, free and fair local government election in the state.
President of the body, Comrade Garshion Acho-Bob, while presenting the award to the RSIEC boss described him as a statesman who succeeded in conducting credible and violence free and fair elections in the state.
According to Comrade Acho-Bob, the RSIEC chairman has always demonstrated integrity and forthrightness in all his official undertakings, adding that Rtd Justice Omereji has justified his appointment as head of the commission and made the Rivers man proud in the manner the last local council election was conducted in the state.
“Rtd Justice Omereji has performed credibly in every sphere of assignment, both as a former justice who delivered landmark judgment that help to resolve fundamental social crises and now as RSIEC chairman in conducting credible elections in Rivers State, “Acho-Bob stated.
Chairman of RSIEC, Rtd, Justice Omereji who spoke to the media after the event expressed appreciation to the Joint Assembly of Rivers Youths for the award. Stating that the award was an attestation of public acceptance of the creditability of the local council election conducted by the commission.
“The actions of the youth body has shown that we have not disappointed the people in the conduct of the election. I have always stated that it is honorable to appreciate and honour a person after he has discharged his responsibilities credibly. We followed the rules in the conduct of the elections. No man can see his back, it is the people that judge our actions;” the RSIEC helmsman declared.
The RSIEC boss advised the youth in the state to learn and imbibe the attitude of patience and emulate people who has demonstrated integrity in life.
“You must eschew violence and criminality, in your action, the society is looking up to you as the people to take over affairs of the state. Omereji advised.
