National Pay Cut: Group Threatens To Sue FG
A pressure group under the aegis of Civil Society Organization (CSO) in Rivers State has condemned Federal Government’s plan to cut the salaries of civil servants in the country.
Chairman of the body, Comrade Sotonye George who made the condemnation in a chat with our correspondent in Port Harcourt such move by the government showed insensitivity to the plight of the common man, especially the civil servants.
Comrade George opined that the Federal Government should rather drastically cut-down the salaries and allowances of politicians especially members of the National Assembly who are carting home billions of naira monthly without any tangible contributions to the economy.
He noted that the poor civil servants still earn the same salary when the economy was running on of N150 per Dollar, pointing out that with the current trend of things in the country, the Federal Government ought not to come up with such plan to cut down civil servants’ salary, when even the one they are paying them is not enough for them to take care of their family needs.
The CSO chairman stated that if the federal government goes ahead with their plans, they will have no option than to seek redress in court in and also join in protest against such move in the country.
On the on-going Forensic Audit at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Comrade Sotonye George said they are in total support of such audit if at the end of the day, it would not be swept under the carpet, stressing that the level of corruption and crime rate at the commission is alarming.
He enjoined the present administration to fulfill their campaign promises to the people in the country and stop complaining or blaming their political opponents.
