Gunmen Strike Again: Kill 7 Cops in Rivers, 6 in A/Ibom
Rivers State Police command said gunmen last Friday, attacked police checkpoints and stations and killed about seven men and officers of the Nigeria Police in the state.
The hoodlums attacked Rumuji Police Divisional Headquarters in Emohua Local Government Area and Elimgbu Police Station in Obio/Akpor LGA. The bandits also attacked two security checking points, C4i security formation on the East-West road and another at Ogbakiri Junction in the same Emohua LGA.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said, after the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka and heads of tactical units visited the different scenes of crime, that the bandits met very stiff resistance.
It was gathered that the gunmen took away some rifles and also set a patrol van ablaze. However two of the attackers were felled while others escaped as they abandoned their blood filled vehicle.
Omoni urged the public to increase security consciousness and report every person or persons with gun wounds to the nearest Police Station.
In a related development, gunmen reportedly attacked Odoro Ikpe Police Station, in Ini LGA of Akwa Ibom State, killing six officers on duty on Saturday.
The assailants invaded the police station and gunned down six officers while others were injured.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Odiko S. Ogbeche confirmed the incident.
The PPRO, however, was unable to give details of the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police was already at the scene for an on the spot assessment.
