‘Why New RSIEC Boss Was Cleared’
The House screened and confirmed for appointment seven persons whose names were submitted as chairman and commissioner of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commissioner (RSIEC).
They are retired judge of the State High Court, Hon. Justice George Omereji, Professor Gilbert Richard, Dr. Barango Taria; Wikena Barinee Akpobari; Dr. Solomon Babe, Mrs. Uwaoma Doris Chukwu, Mrs. Chioma Ochia and Dr. Nyenomi Tamunobereton-ari.
Justice Omereji, who appeared before the Assembly alongside other members of the commission, was asked to take a bow and leave, following what the Assembly members described as his enviable track record of service in the state as a judge in the state judiciary.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikunyi Igbani Owaji who re-echoed the assessment of his colleagues on the quality of Justice Omereji for the chairmanship of RSIEC, stated that society can only make progress and development when merit is considered over mediocrity in appointments into public officers in the country.
Speaking to reporters after his confirmation, the new chairman of RSIEC said he was elated by the hounour accorded to him by the Assembly.
Omereji expressed his commitment and determination to accord justice to all people and parties in accordance with the law.
