APC Chieftain Fetes Widows in Obio/Akpor

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Hon. Macaulay Ihunwo has provided monetary support to widows in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

At an event in Eneka Community which attracted APC stalwarts including the leader of the Party in the Local Government, Hon. Chikaodi Dike, Hon. Ihunwo said the event was his own way of ameliorating the plight of the widows.

According to him, it was also organized to show his support and loyalty to the minister of transportation and leader of APC in the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi who he stated carried out socio-economic programmes and policy during his eight years as governor of the state.

Hon. Ihunwo emphasized that the widow supporting programme was designed to empower the widows in the seventeen wards of the local government to enable them start small business to take care of their families, adding that similar empowerment programme had been organized at the ward level.

He stated that four women including indigenes and non indigenes were selected from each of the seventeen wards in the local government.

The widows who received N10,000 each, expressed appreciation for the gesture.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, Hon. Ihunwo explained that the event was also put in place to bring together the leadership and members of APC in the area to restore the unity of the party in the state.

Leader of the Party in the local Government, Hon. Chikaodi Dike extolled the organizer of the event for his vision and magnanimity to the less-privileged stating that the gesture will go a long way in bringing succor to the beneficiaries.

He added that the event also served as part of the party’s monthly sensitization programme which he explained have not been held for long due to COVID-19 pandemic.

 Another Chieftain of the Party, Barr. Mike Wordi assured party members in the area that the APC in the state was still waxing stronger to the next level, adding that APC will make the mark in 2023 in the state.

Hon. Godspower Igwe who also spoke to the media said he was encouraged by the organizers of the event, who he stated was not a political appointee and urged the beneficiaries to make adequate use of the money to engage themselves meaningfully.
