UBE Boss Tasks Principals On Illegal Levies
Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (UBE), Venerable Fyneface Akah has warned that Principals and Head Teachers who collect levy from any child or Parent Teachers Association (PTA) fees from UBE Schools in the state would face the full wrath of government.
Venerable Akah handed down the warnings during a one-day Facilitators Training workshop on Public Service Rules held at the Board Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
According to him, any Principal or Head Teacher who wants to collect any levy or fee must seek due approval from the board, stressing that anyone caught would face severe consequences because such illegal levies would be contrary to government’s free education policy in the state.
The Venerable opined that in order to ensure quality assurance in education, 84 centres have been created for the trainees to train other staffers in their schools, pointing out that facilitators’ training is strategic in the management and administration of public schools in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, the Chairman, Committee on Training of Public Service Rules, Ibama Owukio said the training was part efforts by UBE and the state government to further equip the high ranking cadre on staff development and enhance discipline among all the staff of the schools.
