RSG Plans Blueprint On School Sports
The Rivers State Government will soon come-up with a blue-print on school sports development.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on School Sports, Chief Aribiton Okiri who made this known in a chat with our correspondent in his office in Port Harcourt hinted that already, contingents of intellectuals, stakeholders and philanthropists have been invited to draft the blue-print on school sports development in the state, which will be approved by the Governor, Chief Nyeson Wike.
Chief Okiri said as his office is saddled with the responsibility of school sports development, he would ensure that he consult relevant stakeholders in education and sports sector to achieve the aim, pointing out that he intend to engage the youths in schools in line with the National School Sports Federation.
He noted that talents would be discovered and harnessed for future engagement, and it would further help their physical and mental capacity, adding, that he intend to use the power of sports to create wealth, as a means to shun youth restiveness and build friendship and peace.
The Special adviser hinted that there are enormous sporting potentials in the schools, and stressed the need to collaborate with the various Sports Associations.
According to him, sports is capital intensive and investment in sports is one of the biggest economic ventures in the world, therefore all hands must be on deck as everybody in the society have a part to play in sports development.
Okiri further disclosed that his office is in talking with ANCOOPS, public and private sectors, and the Ministry of Education as supervising authorities, Rivers State School Board and Universal Basic Education (UBE) with a view to getting the best to identify challenges and how to attract attention to solving those problems in order to achieve the goal of developing school sports in the state.
