The Vortex: One Year Of Visionary Journalism

Your sizzling Port Harcourt based newspaper, The Vortex, has clocked one year. The paper debuted on December 21, 2018 with a vision to redefine newspaper journalism in the south-south through investigative reportage.

When it was launched with funfair last year amid strangulating economic melt-down in the country, many people had thought it would not last more than six months.

They had made reference to other newspapers which debuted with razzmatazz but could not go beyond six publications before they were rested.

More cynical ones said The Vortex would be like those other newspapers that come out three times in a year when they were fortunately patronized with adverts.

Although, we do not begrudge their permutations as they were based on the bad economic situation in the country, we are happy to say that The Vortex had been consistent in the newsstands since its arrival.

The newspaper had not only been consistent, but the management was fulfilling its vision of publishing investigative reports for societal development.

Some of our published investigative reports which captured societal attention, include; “Garbage Return to Port Harcourt”, “Rivers Abandoned Projects Beg for Completion”, “How Fraudsters Steal with ATM Cards”, “Public Schools Battle Refuse, Weeds”, Stakeholders seek Rehabilitation of Oil Mill Market etc.

These reports elicited instant attention. For instance, few days after “Public Schools Battle with Refuse, Weeds”, was published, schools in Port Harcourt, particularly those mentioned in the report were cleared of grasses and refuse.

However, being able to put The Vortex regularly in the market was not so easy as we faced challenges.

We are however encouraged by the patronage of the reading public who identified with our mission by buying The Vortex regularly.

We also wish to thank individuals, particularly our royal fathers who encouraged us through advice and adverts. We appreciate their advice and we thank corporate bodies who identified with us. We are grateful to all of you.

The management has mapped out plans to reposition The Vortex for more efficient and effective service delivery next-year.

We are incorporating new ideas, policies and sections that would make The Vortex more attractive to the reading public, businessmen and corporate bodies.

We urge you to take advantage of the soon to be re-packaged, The Vortex to sell your products to the public.
