Wike Has Done Better Than All Rivers Govs -Ex Gov Odili
Former Governor of the Rivers State, Sir Dr. Peter Odili has declared that Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration has performed more than other former governors of the state, and urged the Governor to ensure that the state remain united.
Odili who spoke at the civic reception held in honour of the governor by Ogbakar Ikwerre, said I urged you to continue to trust in God despite the distractions”, the former Governor said.
Governor Wike who spoke at the ceremony stated that capacity to work for all Rivers people will form the basic qualification for whoever will be the next governor of the state.
Governor Wike explained that he will only support any true Rivers man who possess the requisite capacity to take over from him as next governor of the state irrespective of zone the person may come from, adding that no outsider will be allowed to rule the state.
The governor who restated his commitment not to compromise the interests of the state no matter the pressure, stressed that no one, can divide the state.
Wike charged the Ikwerre ethnic group to remain peaceful and join hands with other ethnic groups in the state to unite and develop the state, also emphasized that no one ethnic group can single handedly elect the governor of the state without the support of others.
Governor Wike who was conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Dike Oha of Ikwerre land” expressed appreciation to the people for the honour.
He paid tributes to some eminent personalities including former Governor Peter Odili and Chief Sergeant Awuse who the governor noted played prominent roles in his political career and in championing the interest of Ikwerre political development in the state.
President of the Ogbakor Ikwerre World Wide, Dr. Emenike Wami in his address said the honour was conferred on the Governor in recognition of his outstanding performance as governor of the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom who spoke on behalf of the eight Governors who attended the event described Wike as a pillar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that the honour by his people was an appreciation of the Governors uncommon touch in the development of the state.
Others who spoke at the event included the chairman of the planning committee for the event, Chief Austine Opara, Chief OCJ Okocha as chairman of the event Ankio Briggs, former Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Dr. Peter Obi, and reprehensively members of the State and National Assembly among others.
