Bayelsa, Kogi Elections, Most Cannibalistic –Sekibo

Senator George Thompson Sekibo representing Rivers East Senatorial District in a sponsored motion on Tuesday in Abuja described electoral violence in Kogi and Bayelsa State as most cannibalistic in Nigeria’s history.

Sekibo said, the orgy, if not checked would threaten Nigeria’s democracy, adding that records showed that electoral violence in the just concluded governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa State was the highest.

According to him, armed thuggery increased more in 2019 compared to previous elections, with privileged politicians using either armed thugs or security agents to disrupt smooth electioneering process.

In his contribution, the Senate Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe stressed that election was about ideas and resort to violence as witnessed in Kogi State should not have been an option.

He condemned the post-election violence that claimed the life of a PDP woman leader, Mrs Salome Abuh who was burnt alive at Ochadamu in Ofu local government Area of Kogi State.

Adopting the motion, Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan urged security agents to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Lawan said the senate was united in condemning the act of criminality under any guise, stating that violence should never be contemplated as loyalty to any political party.
