Policemen, Boat Driver Still In Kidnappers’ Den …As Command Intensifies Manhunt For Gunmen
More than one month after two policemen from the Rivers State police command, serving in Andoni local government area were kidnapped, the whereabout of the officers and the boat driver taken along with them, remain unknown.
The officers, ASP Godwin Anwuri from Emuoha local government area and Sgt. Ojimini Gift and the boat driver, Festus Friday were kidnapped along the Ngo River in the Andoni area of the state.
The officers according to reports were on their way to their Asarama – Ebukuma duty post when they were ambushed by armed men in a speed boat and taken away.
It was also reported that the gunmen also attacked a popular fishing settlement, Oyorokoto, where they carted away goods and made away with a 40 – horse power engine boat.
The police in Rivers State through its spokesman Nnamdi Omoni had assured that the command had deployed a crack team to rescue the policemen and the boat driver. However, more than one month after, the victims have remanded in the captivity of the abductors.
Family of the boat driver, Festus Friday, said to be father of three children and hails from Andoni, have been thrown into sadness over the incident.
Also, the wives of the police officers, Mrs. Beauty Godwin and Mrs. Patience Ojimini have expressed anguish over the continued incarceration of their husband and have called on the police authorities in the state to ensure their quick rescue.
Contacted on phone, Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni said the police were working hard to secure the release of the victims.
