Omehia Decries Lack Of Federal Projects In Rivers

Former Governor
of Rivers State, Mr. Celestine Omehia has berated the federal government of
Nigeria for depriving the state of its due in the acting of projects since
2015.

Speaking during
the flag off of the Rebisi fly over project at the Garrison area of Port Harcourt,
Mr. Omehia decried the situation in which federal projects have been cited in
others states and none in Rivers State since the inception of Buhari
administration.

The former
Governor who noted that the three fly over projects embarked upon by the state
were projects that were supposed to be taken up by the federal government,
however commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his courage in building the flyovers
which he stated will alleviate the traffic crises in the state. Omehia
challenged the federal authorities to bring to the state, some of those
projects being cited in Lagos, Kano and other preferred states to ensure that
Rivers people benefit from huge resources contributed to the national treasury
by the state.

Omehia applauded
Governor Wike for demonstrating capacity and competent leadership in the use
and deployment of resources of the state, stating that the governor is noted
for matching words with action.

Earlier,
Governor Nyesom Wike had urged the Rebisi community to support the contractor,
Julius Berger in the execution of the project in record time. The Governor also
urged Berger to ensure that indigenes of the area benefit from the project by
subletting some of the contracts to them, and ensure the employment of local
labor on the project.

Rivers people,
Governor Wike stated deserved the best, adding that Julius Berger which he
described as one of the best in the world, has been mobilized and pad up to 70%
of the contract sum and should have no reason not to perform.

The Vortex recalls that the Rivers State government
has also flagged off two other flyovers to be built at the Rumuokoro and
Artillery areas of Aba Road in Portr Harcourt.
