Monarchs Work Out In Pleasure Park
Royal Fathers in Rivers put aside the luxuries of their palaces to participate in a walk out at the prestigious Port Harcourt Pleasure Park in the state.
The kings led by the chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Amanayabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja all dressed in sports outfits, arrived at the place as early as 8am in the morning for the exercise.
Some of kings accompanied by their wives and aides engaged in light physical exercises including group walk around the various facilities of the complex.
Some of the Traditional Rulers also undertook boat ride around the artificial lake at the park, while others engaged in other leisure’s and later had launch together at the park bar.
The Queens were also not left out of the fun-fare as they interacted in groups and undertook royal train ride around the park.
Speaking to newsmen during the excursion, King Jaja described the event as epoch making, adding that Rivers State has become the hub of tourism industry in Nigeria.
He stated that the state has a lot to contribute to the tourism sector in the country, pointing out that the internationally acclaimed Opobo Boat Regatta, the exciting wrestling festivals of the Ikwere ethnic nationality, the Ifoko beach among other rich tourism potentials can be harnessed by the government to boost the tourism sector in the state.
The chairman commended the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike on the recent agreement signed with the Ethiopian Airline to commence flight operations in the state, adding that it will encourage more visitors to the state. He described the construction of the pleasure Pack by the Governor as a demonstration of foresight.
According to the Royal Father, the excursion by the Traditional Rulers was an opportunity to feel the ambience of the Park, stating that the exercise will refresh them for the challenges of their stools.
The Paramount Ruler of Alesa Eleme, HRM. Sir Emperor J. D. Nkpe in exclusive chat with The Vortex expressed delight at the event, stressing that leaving the allures of their royal palaces for a while to catch fun was a memorable experience.
According to him, it is a way for the Traditional Rulers to interact and unwind outside the palace; adding that such exercise will help to rejuvenate the blood of the kings.
He emphasized that a lot of traditional rulers spent some much of their time in the palace and do not have enough time to unwind and expressed appreciation to chairman of the Traditional Ruler’s Council, King Dandeson Jaja for arranging the event.
King Nkpe also extolled Governor Nyesom Wike for putting in place what he termed wonderful facilities, which according to him has transformed the state to a tourism scene comparable to the Disney land in California.
He however called for replicating of such facilities in the rural areas as a way to encourage the local populace.
Also speaking, His Majesty, King Nicolas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo Loko IX, the Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom on his part expressed pleasure at having to engage with his colleagues, adding that such exercises will improve their blood circulation.
King Ibebiele explained that rather than stay in the luxuries of their palace and sleep; it was a good time well spent at the park.
The King advocated for more of such event as a way of building the physical fitness of the traditional rulers, and expressed appreciation to Governor Wike for providing the opportunity for the kings to exercise and interact.
