Flood Ravage Igwuruta, Submerge Houses
Floods have submerged houses in some part of Igwuruta in Ikwere local government area of Rivers State.
Our correspondent who visited the area reports that many houses and shops at Market Road were submerged in water, making it difficult for the occupants to come out or go into the houses.
Business activities were also affected as routes to shops and business centres were blocked by the flood waters.
Okeh Ikenna, a business man who deals on electrical parts along Market Road said for days nobody had come to patronize him because the entrance to his shop was covered with water.
Hon. Felix Worlu, President, Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) who is an indigene of Igwuruta told The Vortex that the areas worst hit by the flood are: Omuohia, Omueke, Agboga, Omumah and Omunwei.
He said the flood was caused by the heavy rainfall which hit the communities on Sunday night of October 13th, 2019. According to him, the rainfall was so heavy that residents thought another deluge had been unleashed on them.
“My house was covered with water on Monday morning, land my family could not come out. There was no place to put our legs as everywhere was covered with flood waters” he told our correspondent.
Worlu appealed to the Rivers State Government, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to their rescue.
