The Vortex Editorial Board Charged ToStimulate Readership
The Editorial Board of The Vortex newspaper has been charged to introduce creative ideas that will address the decline in newspaper readership.
Veteran journalist and former National President of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Amaopusenibo Bobo Sofiri Brown gave the charge at the inauguration of the Board in Port Harcourt.
He noted that the influence of the new media requires mainstream journalism to be more strategic in terms of contact and style in order to remain relevant in the task of mass mobilization for social and national development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Rev. Dr. Ukoha described The Vortex as a noble idea and urged key actors to nurture it to success.
He urged the management to ensure that the paper maintain an editorial policy that is respectable, stressing that more competent hands should be engaged to strengthen the quality of the newspaper.
Editor-in-Chief of The Vortex, Dr. Alpheaus Paul-Worika urged members of the Board to bring their experience to the project to achieve success, adding that the Board should recommend people with expertise to contribute for the paper.
Barr George Karibi said The Vortex should be objective and focused even when it had political leaning. He stressed that issues should be analyzed fairly, adding that the management should develop an editorial policy that would make the paper a reference point.
