Oyigbo Killings, Destruction …LG Chairman Fingers Invades From Khana

The Oyigbo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Gerald Oforji has alleged that those who invaded and killed people in Oyigbo communities last Monday were from Khana in Ogoni.

Hon. Oforji disclosed this when he received the Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City, Desmond Akawo who paid a sympathy visit to the area.

The Chairman said he was worried by the level of destruction of lives and property and appealed to the attackers to stop attacking communities in his local government.

Hoodlums suspected to be cult boys invaded Oyigbo communities on Monday August 19th, killing and destroying properties.

Lawmaker representing Oyigbo Constituency Rivers State House of Assembly Hon. Clement Nwankwo, said three people were killed.

While condemning the attack he called on the authorities to establish a police station to contain the level of crime in the area.

However but the Rivers State Police spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni in an interview with journalists said only one person was killed.

He said Police were working to prevent reoccurrence/reprisal attacks, and appealed to residents of Oyigbo to provide information that will lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.

It could also be recalled the invasion of Oyigbo came few days after gunmen attacked 5 communities in Khana local government area killing several persons. In the wake of the attack, a human rights lawyer, Ledum Mitee while speaking to journalists appealed to the police to consider re-deploying some of its men in Khana over speculation that some of them had been compromised.
