Fear Grips LG Treasurers HPMs

Treasurers and Heads of Personnel Management and Administration in the 23 local governments in Rivers State, yesterday left Government House, Port Harcourt with anxiety written on their faces, following reports that Governor Nyesom Wike has decided to wield the big stick on all those indicted in the recent audit of the local councils accounts.

The Vortex gathered from reliable sources that Governor Wike during a closed door meeting held with all the local Council Chairmen, Council Treasures, Head of Local Government Administration and Heads of Personnel in the 23. Local Government Areas in the State said those involved should be prepared to farce the music. 

According to the source, Governor Wike told the senior local government officials that preliminary reports from the audited financial books of the councils indicated massive frauds and misappropriation of funds and that all officials implicated in the report should be ready to receive their sacked letters from the government.

Governor Wike, the source added stated that in as much as he could not remove the elected council chairmen in view of the Supreme Court judgment on elected council chairmen, the officials of the councils who colluded in the fraudulent practices would be shown the way out.

The Vortex reports that some council officials left the gate of Government House wearing gloomy looks while seen of them were seen in groups at the car park of the Government house holding frantic discussion on the matter.

The vortex recalls that a panel headed by the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry, recently set up to investigate the financial transaction of the 23 local councils in the state, indicted some local council officials in its report which was submitted to Governor Wike, last week.
