The 12th edition of DAF-F Basketball Holiday Clinic and Camp has dunked-off at the Basketball Court along Niger/Bende Street in Port Harcourt.

Coordinator of DAF-F Basketball Clinic, Coach Fubara Onyanabo said this year’s edition titled “Basketball at Your Backyard” is aimed at taking the children out of the streets and help them discover their talents.

Coach Onyanabo who is also the coach of Junior D’Tigers told journalists that the Holiday Clinic would identify children with zero talents and make basketball popular as football in Rivers State.

He disclosed that the clinic which had commenced at five different basketball courts in the state is to bring the game closer to every teen and popular in Rivers State, adding that “I want to do something new in Nigeria and Rivers State”.

The coach further hinted that his target is for 500 children to learn and know how to play the game before school resume.

“For me taking teenagers out of the streets is my major achievement. Presently we have close to 20 children in America on Athletic scholarship and everywhere in Rivers State you have our products. Beside, our players have featured at all levels of our national basketball team”, he emphasized.

Onyanabo also noted that although there is no support from any quarter he hoped that in no distance time he will get support as it is what God asked him to do.

“This programme is like a ministry to me as I am born because of doing this for myself”, he asserted, pointing out that all participants at the clinic are entitled to free tops and certificate of participation.

It would be recalled that about 20 players who passed through DAF-F basketball Academy are currently abroad playing Basketball with notable basketball teams.
