Why GDI Celebrated Wike’s Victory –Eke
The Chairman of Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State, Hon. Ben Eke has stated that the thanksgiving and victory celebration in honour of Governor Nyesom Wike last Sunday by the Grassroot Democratic Initiative (GDI) was a celebration of the triumph of Governor Wike and the People Democratic Party (PDP) over the activities of anti-democratic forces in the state.
Hon. Eke, who spoke to the media on the sideline of the GDI reception ceremony held at the Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Port Harcourt over the weekend, added that the occasion was organized to appreciate God for the victory of the Governor during the March 23, governorship election in the state.
According to Hon. Eke, “You were all here in the state when a group of people from the opposition party vowed hat Governor Nyesom Wike will not be re-elected and even threatened to shut down the state and turn it upside down, all in the bid to stop the governor from getting elected for second term”.
Hon. Eke equally alleged that the opposition party also planned to dissolve all the local councils in the state, explaining that a date was also given by the leaders of the opposition on when a new local government election would have been held if they had won the governorship election. “If they had won, all of us would not have been here” Eke said.
The chairman who described Governor Wike as a man of the people, said as the Grand Patron of the organization, the GDI which he said stands for Justice, fairness and equal representation massively supported the governor to win the elections in state.
He said as leaders at the grassroot level in the state, it is their responsibility to assist the governor in the task of providing the dividends of democracy to the people and also ensuring that the mandates given to the Governor by River people are effectively fulfilled.
