Ogu Monarch Football Competition Enters Semi-Final Stage
The Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom, His Majesty, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, Loko IX Peace Football Cup Competition among the five major Group of Houses and Torukongo (Satellite) communities which Kicked-off on July 13, 2019 has entered its Semi-final stage.
The five Houses participating in the competition are Loko Group of Houses, Kurukuru Group of Houses, Ama Group of Houses, Omodara Group of Houses and Offiomani Group of Houses.
The Ogu monarch who took the kick-off of the competition at Ogu Mini Stadium (St. Martins School Field) Ogu in a chat with our correspondent after the opening match said the competition was to encourage the youths to maintain the existing peace in the area as well as engage them meaningfully in order for them not to indulge in social vices inimical to the society.
King Ibiebele Nimenibo opined that the only way for the youths to show case their budden talents in football is to organize such competition, and more so now that football as a career had become a source of livelihood to many families.
He enjoined the players to be disciplined and play the game in the spirit of sportsmanship, and charged them to obey the officials as the Best Player, Best Behaved Team and the Highest Goal Scorer will be given award at the end of the competition.
The Amanyanabo further disclosed that the winner of the competition, the runners-up and the third place team will cart home mouth-watering sums and trophy, promising that it will be an annual event.
He also hinted that an inter-Group of Houses Wrestling and Canoe Race Competitions will take place before the end of the year in order to revive the traditional sports of the people and wished the teams best of luck
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Comrade Sunny Alli Joseph promised to observe fair play rules according to FIFA in order to further encourage them as future stars of the game and thanked the Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom, His Majesty, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, Loko IX for sponsoring the game.
In some of the matches played, Loko Group played 1-1 with Torukongo communities, and Omodara lost 3-1 to Kurukuru as Ama group and Torukongo match also ended 1-1 while Offiomani Walloped Omodara 4-0.
The match between Ama Group and Loko ended 2-1 as Kurukuru and Offiomani also draw 1-1. Meanwhile Offiomani will take on Loko in the second Semi-finals today while the third place and final matches have been slated for Sunday, July 28th, 2019 by 1.00pm and 4.00pm respectively.
