FG To Confiscate No 9 Azikiwe Rd
The Federal Government is due to confiscate the property situated at No. 9 Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt. The property is linked to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had ruled that the property was illicitly acquired.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which brought the application before the court had said it suspected that the property was part of proceeds of unlawful activities.
Ruling on the application, Justice Chika Obiozor said: “Upon careful appraisal of the applicant’s motion on notice for final forfeiture before me, I find that the property constitutes a proceed of unlawful act.”
Justice Obiozor had earlier on 14th April ordered the property’s temporary forfeiture.
The EFCC prayed the court to appoint a competent person or firm to manage it and further asked that it should prohibit any disposal, conveyance, mortgage, lease, sale or alienation or otherwise of the asset/property.
The former Petroleum Minister have had a number of her properties seized by the Federal Government for alleged corruption.
Four days ago, a court had ordered a temporary forfeiture of 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customized gold iphone allegedly belonging to her to the Federal Government. The items were reportedly valued at $40 million (about N14.4 billion).
Justice Nicholas Oweibo ordered their forfeiture after hearing application by the EFCC.
