14 Rivers W’ Lifters Eye All -Africa Games Slots. Collins Barasimeye

A total of 14 Weight lifters of Rivers State Sports Council are set to clinch qualification spots as the All Africa Games Trials started in Abuja from June 25-29, 2019.

The Vortex sports correspondent who visited the weight lifting gym at the sports council complex in Port Harcourt Township last Wednesday saw the lifters in their various categories doing what they know best.

Speaking with our correspondent during the training, the Chief Coach, Aduche Ojadi said the athletes are busy preparing towards the games to make the state proud.

Ojadi, a one time Olympic Games medalist disclosed that he is expected to travel with eight boys and six girls for the trials, and expressed optimism that with the level of preparations, they would achieve their aim.

The Chief Coach hinted that the weight lifters that are to represent the state during the trials include Olawumi Oluyemi in the 63kg category, Bassey James and Chimala Nwagwu in 71kg category, Celdon Mamdim in the 81kg category as Felix Joseph and Tambari Emmanuel goes for 81kg category while 108kg category has Abdu Abdurahim all in the boys category.

He also disclosed that the girls that are expected to make Rivers State proud during the games include Stella Kingsley in 45kg category, Auguster Christian in 48kg category, Victoria Ibinabo in 45kg category, Caroline Okouncha in 71kg and Joy Eze in the 64kg category respectively.
