Re-Elected Speaker Seeks Support For Legislative Agenda
The re-elected speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikunyi Owaji-Igbani has sought the support of members of the 9th Assembly for the success of the legislative arm of the government.
Addressing members of the Assembly after being returned as the speaker of the House for the second term, Rt. Hon. Ikunyi expressed appreciation to the members for the confidence reposed in him.
The speaker commended the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike for his support in the process of the Assembly stressing his readiness and commitment to ensuring quality legislation for the state.
The speaker who said he did not hope of being re-elected to the position enjoined members to remain dedicated and contribute meaningfully to the agenda of the Assembly.
He promised to run an all inclusive law making body that will take the interests of all members in the decisions of the Assembly.
Earlier, moving a motion for his nomination, the lawmaker representing Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Constituency1 in the Assembly, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo described Hon. Ikunyi as the most experienced legislator in the Assembly, who had played a stabilizing role between the legislature and the executive arms doing the 8th Assembly.
His nomination which was supported y Hon. Martin Amaehule of Obio Akpor Constituency 1 was endorsed by the votes of all the lawmakers present at the inaugural sitting.
Governor Nyesom Wike had earlier during the proclamation of the Assembly, charged the lawmakers to continue to partner with the executive for the effective administration of the state.
The Governor stated that the state Assembly has in the last four years been the most peaceful legislature in the country and urged them to remain supportive of the administration to achieve its programmes for the state.
