Fire Service Begins Enforcement Of Safety Codes In PH
Federal Fire Service, Rivers State division says it has started the use of the National Fire safety code in companies and public buildings in order to reduce fire outbreaks across the country.
Assistant Fire Superintendent, Abas Regan made this known in Port Harcourt during his visit to the fire safety code enforcement office.
He said the fire safety code contains information that will help to arrest the spread of fire during a fire disaster.
The fire marshal appealed to the public to cooperate with fire fighters to do their job effectively whenever there is a fire outbreak, stressing that hoodlums sometimes hijack the scene thereby making the work difficult.
He stated that the national fire code empowers them to carryout fire assessment at companies and public buildings and offer them tips on necessary fire safety code regulations.
He disclosed that the federal government had approved funds for purchase of fire equipment, some of which they had received and distributed to some states, adding that more equipment were being awaited.
“We want to make sure that the issue of fire outbreak is reduced to the barest minimum in the states”, Superintendent Regan said.
He urged the public to take fire outbreak more seriously and have every firefighting equipment in their homes and workplace, adding that what kills people is not the fire, but inhaling the smoke from it.
The fire service boss stressed that fire prevention should be everyone’s responsibility because fire is no respecter of any person.
