SWAN Partners NSSF To Promote Shooting

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) are in synergy to create public  awareness about the shooting sports.

The communiqué which called for the recognition of shooting sports because of its medal hauls in international competitions also commended the President of NSSF, Brig. Gen. Lonsdale Adeoye (Rtd and the National President SWAN, Mr. Honour Sirawoo for providing a platform for sports journalists to report shooting sports.

The bodies said the synergy will further boost co-operation with NSSF in reporting the game and called on other sports federations to emulate NSSF in organizing such seminars and workshop for Sports Journalists in order to achieve the tripod for sports development in the country.

The communiqué also decried the non-participation of Shooting Sports in National Sports Festivals and appealed to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to include the game in subsequent festivals.

They also called for the upgrading of the Nigeria Shooting Range facilities and also to organize regular competitions in the country to popularize the game.

In his speech the President of SWAN, Mr. Honour Sirawoo reiterated the need toinclude shooting sports as a competitive event in National Sports Festivals and called on the sports authorities to pay more attention to the sport.

Sirawoo further called on other sports administrators to emulate NSSF in organizing workshops and seminars for sports journalists, who according to him are the platform upon which talents are discovered and natured to stardom.

He lauded NSSF for their pioneering role in bringing sports journalist together and keep them up to date on the technicalities of the sport as well as training them in the act of shooting sports.

Earlier in his speech, the President of NSSF, Retired Brig. Gen. Lonsdale Adeoye commended SWAN for partnering with the Federation to give the sports a face-lift as well as making it popular in Nigeria.

Adeoye however advocated for more support for the game of shooting, pointing out that apart from its medal haul prospects, it is capable of taking the country to the map of shooting sports in the world.
