Reaction Over Buhari’s Security Orders In Rivers
Some Rivers indigenes have reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s condemnation of resurgence of killings by cult groups in Rivers State and the order to security agencies for “increased community and law enforcement action against its escalation”.
President General, Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership Chizi Enyi, says Governor Wike has failed Rivers people as regards security.
Enyi who was reacting to President Buhari’s order that security agencies should deal with cult related clashes that had claimed many lives in the state, alleged that Wike’s frequent altercations with security chiefs in the state was responsible for the escalation of insecurity.
It was his belief that the security agencies may have developed cold feet in fighting crimes in the state due to the Governor’s attitude towards them.
He said President Buhari’s order to security agencies to deal with the situation was a welcome development aimed at reducing insecurity.
However, Okechukwu Chukwu, a community leader and PDP chieftain from Obio/Akpor said it was the non-collaboration of security chiefs with Governor Wike that is responsible for insecurity.
He told The Vortex that although the president’s order was commendable, security chiefs posted to Rivers state should respect and work harmoniously with the governor to achieve set goals.
Chukwu advised the security agencies not to use the order as a disguise to witch hunt political opponents, stressing that such orders could be misused and misapplied.
He urged the president to back his order with action as he did in Zamfara State, saying Rivers state is more productive than Zamfara.
