Ndigbara Seeks To Partner Media For Peace In Ogoni
Ex-Niger Delta Agitator High Chief Solomon Barihiyewua Ndigbara has called for the support of the media in tackling the increasing spate of violence in Ogoni and Rivers state in general.
Ndigbara was speaking while receiving the award of Ambassador of peace in Ogoni land conferred on him by a group; Niger Delta Media Practitioners Association, (NDMPA) Rivers state branch, in Yege, Gokama Local government area.
Ambassador Ndigbara, who is also the Mere Serabara Bateera I of Ogoni land, said the media has a great role to play in assisting leaders in the communities and the state government to create awareness for peace especially among the youths.
While expressing his appreciation for the award which he described as a significant event, Ndigbara enjoined media practitioners in the Niger Delta region to devote their capacity to accord community leaders, as well as local and state governments the maximum support to enable them achieve peace, progress and development.
According to the former agitator, the media should join hands to preach against all forms of social vices including cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and such other menace that fan the embers of disunity and insecurity in the state.
Ndigbara said he has devoted much of his time and resources to empower and advice youths to embrace peace in the area, and lamented the continued wastage of the lives of vibrant youth in the region. He urged all Nigerians to struggle to ensure peace in all communities in the state.
The Ambassador of peace also said he was dedicating the award to all the oppressed, deprived and all the men and women who had been rendered homeless and childless by the cruel activities of cult violence in the society.
