Kwara 2019: Rivers Wrestlers Set For Gold

The Coach of Traditional Wrestling (Kokowa) in Rivers State, Coach Wilson Kuro has expressed optimism that his wrestlers will win gold in the forthcoming Junior National Sports Festival in Illorin, Kwara 2019.

Coach Kuro in a chat with The Vortex Sports correspondent in Port Harcourt said the team has intensified training in preparation for the festival.

He opined that with the young and up-coming star player like the 13 year-old Isaac Jacob, who won gold in the Junior Under-15 tournament last year will make the state proud among other players.

The Coach hinted that the team won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals during the National Sports Festival hosted Rivers State in 2011 and also won three silver and one bronze at Eko 2012 in Lagos while in 2018, the team won one  silver medal in Abuja, adding that they will improve on their performance at the forthcoming Junior Traditional Wrestling contest.

Coach Kuro noted that although finance and training pitch had been their major challenge, they would not be deterred from making the state proud in any championship within and outside the country.

He said the team was training at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex Handball pitch and appealed to the State Government to help build a Traditional Wrestling Ground to further improve the game in the state.
