Zakpon Community Cries Out Over Cult Violence
Leaders and indigenes of Zakpon community in Khana local government area of Rivers State have raise alarm over the spate of violence that has engulfed the area in recent times.
Addressing the media after its meeting in Port Harcourt, one of the leaders, Chief Gani Toba said the meeting was convened to find solutions to the worsening cult clashes that have led to several deaths in the community.
Toba lamented that the violence in the community has engendered fears among the residents, with many seeking refuge to nearby communities.
The Ogoni conscience Leader attributed the crises in the community to the instigation of some politicians in the community who he stated have taken advantage of youth unemployment in the area to divide the community.
He appealed for the quick intervention of the Rivers State government on the matter and commended the Chairman of Khana LGA, Elder Late Lalolo for taking some security measures to bring the situation under control.
Toba however said that leaders of the community have agreed to tackle the crises in order to avoid the crises spreading to the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic which is situated in the community.
Reports from residents of the community indicated that the situation in the area has been brought under control, following the deployment of security operatives.
