First military Governor of old Rivers state and Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass in Bayelsa State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff has called on sons and daughters of Ijaw Ethnic nationality to stand firm for their right.
King Diete-Spiff who made the call at the 2nd Heroes of Ijaw Nation Award organized by Ijaw Republican Assembly (Patriotic Front) in conjunction with Ijaw Media Action Initiative, held at Hotel presidential, Port Harcourt said the Ijaws have contributed so much to nation building and deserved better treatment.
The monarch lauded the organizers of the programme for their initiative and vision to honour illustrious sons and daughters of Ijaw who had excelled in various spheres and facets of life.
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Albert Shortfall also urged the Ijaw to remember that time has come for them to wake-up and be proactive to benefit from the wealth they produce for the country.
He expressed dismay that in a list oil block allottes d oil blocks in the Niger Delta and the number of Ijaw sons and daughters was less than three percent, adding that with the oil from our soil, it is a pity that we keep being exploited by others even in our own territory”.
Earlier in his speech, President, Ijaw Republican Assembly (Patriotic Front), Alatubo Charles Harry said the ceremony was to recognize, celebrate and applaud prominent Ijaw sons and daughters for their achievements.
Harry noted that as an Ijaw son and past Vice President of Ijaw National Congress (INC), he believed that the continuity of the programme would bring the best in Ijaw people bringing a new narrative of the Ijaw man and his own contributions to Nigeria, he warned against the militarization of the Niger Delta.
