‘Why Onicha Nwenkwo Is Agog Over Ihedioha’s Victory’
Victory fever has gripped Mbaise people over Hon. Emeka Ihedioha’s emergence as Governor-elect of Imo State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Groups, autonomous communities and churches in Mbaise have rolled out the drums in celebration of their son’s victory at the polls.
One of these communities, Onicha Nwenkwo in Ezinihitte, Mbaise, last week Saturday gathered at their market square, Nkwo Umuevu in celebration of the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the event, President-General of Onicha Nwenkwo Autonomous Community, Chief Edmond Onyeneho, said the community was celebrating because Ihedioha secured a position that had eluded Mbaise people over the years.
He said since the creation of the state some decades ago, Mbaise with its array of intellectuals, had not occupied Imo State Government House, stressing that it was an act of God that Ihedioha won the governorship election. He also stressed that it was the collective efforts of Mbaise people that gave victory to Ihedioha.
Onyeneho who had the title of Ikemba of Onicha Nwenkwo, also expressed appreciation to the electorate from Orlu and Okigwe zones for standing behind Chief Ihedioha and casting their votes for him.
He advised Imo people, particularly Mbaise to rally round him for effective and efficient administration of the state.
Eze Boniface Ohanaga, Paramount Ruler of Onicha Owenkwo, thanked Mbaise and Imo people generally for voting their son and gave assurance that the governor-elect would administer the state well.
Highlights of the event include, cultural displays, discharged of rounds of cannons and solidarity messages from women group.
