How Oyigbo PDP Agent Was Killed –DG
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyigbo local government has alleged that soldiers shot one of its election agents in the area, Chijioke Azuonwu, because he resisted them from taking away election results from the centre.
Director General of the PDP Campaign Council, Amb Desmond Akawo who led other party leaders on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Oyigbo, said the soldiers invaded the centre and attempted to hijack collated results when they were resisted by the deceased.
According to the PDP chieftain, these soldiers moved around the various election units and collation centres to perpetrate what he termed the illegal bastardization of election processes in the state.
He stated that the late Azuonwu was at the collation centre as a PDP agent and expressed dismay that soldiers whose responsibility was to protect the territorial integrity of the country, would decide to invade election centres to kill the people.
The Ambassador condemned the assertions by the military authorities that those who committed the crime during the elections were fake soldiers, stressing that in subsequent elections, anybody found in army uniforms, should take whatever happens to the person. He equally accused some indigenes of the area of colluding with the security personnel to identify the young man before he was shot by the soldiers.
Amb. Akawo said the state Governor, Nyesom Wike and the entire party in the state were deeply saddened by the development, expressing the readiness of the party to consult with the family in the burial activities whenever it is fixed.
Chairman of the local council, Mr. Gerald Oforji expressed sadness at the incident, stating that all those connected with the dastardly act will not go unpunished. He said the council would do whatever it takes to honour the deceased, whom he described as a peaceful gentleman.
The late Chijioke Azuonwu according to family sources had just graduated from the university and was awaiting his NYSC call up before his death.
