PDP Alerts On Plot To Disrupt Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation in Rivers State has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the APC to use violence to scuttle the general elections in the State.

The party said it had written to the International Community to intimate them of the plot.

Director-General of the PDP Campaign Organisation, Amb. Desmond Akawo, at a press briefing in Port Harcourt alleged that the violence is being sponsored by some APC bigwigs from Rivers State.

He further claimed that the plot would be carried out in partnership with some security agencies, including the Army.

The Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council said that the APC at different fora had threatened that there would be no elections in the State until all pending litigations by the APC got to the apex court for final decision.

Akawo said the PDP was dismayed by the continued silence of the Federal Government and the security agencies, whom, he alleged had failed to caution those behind the threats capable of inciting the people of the state.

Listen to the DG: “Why APC and its leaders continue to publicly declare their intention to take laws into their hands and disrupt the general elections in Rivers Sate with maximum violence, neither the security agencies, nor the presidency had deemed it necessary to reprimand, caution, arrest or prosecute the Transportation Minister, Amaechi and Prince Tonye Princewill, the arrowheads of the threats. Instead, what we are have started witnessing is concerted efforts by the APC, INEC, the Nigeria Army and the police to actualize both the intent and content of the dangerous agenda of APC to truncate the electoral processes in the State.”

Akawo further accused the Military high command in the state of supervising the distribution of electoral materials for the botched February 16, Presidential and National Assembly elections.

“On Friday 15th February, 2019 APC-led Federal Government deployed full military arsenal to cordon off, overrun and prevent voters from getting to the local government areas of Akuku-Toru, Andoni, Bonny, Degema, Okrika and Opobo-Nkoro.

He accused one Major General Jamil of the 6 Division Headquarters of directing gun-toting soldiers to prevent Okrika residents from returning as early as 6p.m on Friday February 15.

In the same vein, chairman, PDP Campaign Organisation, Ferdinand Alabraba has claimed that soldiers had taken over his houses in Abonnema and Akuku-Toru local government areas, preparatory to the February 23, elections.

Meanwhile, Deputy Leader of the APC in Rivers State, Dakuku Peterside has denied the allegation that the APC is working with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to disrupt the elections.

Peterside said the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has not connived with anybody as alleged to rig the general elections.

He said the allegations made by the PDP campaign council is what the PDP is planning to do, stressing that the party was raising alarm to attract sympathy.
