‘Why Tinubu, Oshiomole Were Stoned In Ogun’
Reasons why the APC Presidential campaign rally in Ogun State on Monday was disrupted, have emerged.
At the campaign rally attended by President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC Chieftains, the National Chairman of the party Comrade Adams Oshiomole was pelted with stones, while APC National Leader Ahmed Tinubu, was booed by suspected thugs.
According to some politicians who spoke to The Vortex on condition of anonymity, the party leaders’ denigration of former President Obasanjo, a prominent indigene of the state was part of the reasons.
Oshiomole and Tinubu had criticized Obasanjo, accusing him of being a beneficiary of corruption and election fraud.
Obasanjo became Oshiomole and Tinubu’s enemy after he wrote a letter to President Buhari urging him not to contest in 2019 because of his alleged non-performance.
Following its negative impact on Buhari’s re-election bid, the APC leaders decided to retaliate, heaping the blames for the woes of the country on the former president.
One of these politicians who spoke to The Vortex said the people of Ogun State were not happy with the abuses on Obasanjo which was why they vented their anger on the campaign train of the president.
“Their stoning of Oshiomole and Tinubu, was a way of giving back to them what they gave to Obasanjo”, he told The Vortex.
Still speaking on the stoning, another politician said the people could also be expressing their disappointment over the inability of the president to fulfill the promises he made to Ogun people during the 2015 presidential election campaign.
But Barikpo Nwikabari in an online post said the stoning was a fulfillment of the APC campaign promise in 2015 that if they failed to perform, Nigerians should stone them.
Ogun state APC has however alleged that it was Governor Ibikunle Amosun who sponsored thugs that invaded the MKO Abiola Stadium, venue of the campaign rally and unleashed mayhem, an allegation the governor had since denied.
