Herrera Fancies Man United’s Chances …As Schmeichel Blames Defence Against PSG

Manchester United midfielder, Ander Herrera has said that his side’s chance of qualifying for the Champions League quarter-final stage would be ‘difficult’.

Herrera stated this following Man United’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 first leg encounter on Tuesday night at the Old Trafford.

Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe gave Thomas Tuchel’s men all three points against Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s side.

Speaking after the match, Herrera told our source: “I think this result is not going to hurt us because of the way we lost. If you lose being worse than the opponent, that could hurt us. But I think until the corner I couldn’t say we were better (but) the game was under control.

“They were not creating too many problems, we neither but 0-0 could have been an OK result because everything would be open. Now it is more difficult for us, but we have good examples (of getting good away wins).”

Herrera added: “But this is football. Something to learn (from). We can’t concede goals from set-pieces against this kind of teams because everything turns much, much (more) difficult, much harder.

“I think we are not going to lose time thinking about what happened tonight.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has blamed the club’s “central defenders” for the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 first leg encounter at Old Trafford.

Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe gave Thomas Tuchel’s men all three points against Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s side.

Schmeichel believes that the club still have centre-half issues, stressing that former Man United boss, Jose Mourinho already knew that.

Speaking on Man United’s 2-0 defeat by PSG, Schmeichel told BeIn Sports: “I don’t think anyone… you can get carried away because you’re a fan, you’re allowed to be carried away with the 10 wins in 11 games but in the broader perspective we already know Mourinho was fighting to get a centre-half or even two in the summer.

“He was doing that because there is a problem in centre-half or in central defence.

“There are a few guys out there who can do the job but that problem hasn’t gone away. “That was exploited today.”

Man United will tackle PSG in the Champions League second leg on March 6 at the Parc des Princes.
