Make FG Presence Felt, Revive Rivers Ports, Monarchs Tell Buhari
The Federal Government has been told to make their presence felt in the state by reviving the sea ports in Rivers State.
Chairman of Rivers state Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, said the closure of the ports in Rivers State had increased unemployment, stating that this was one reason to support the call for restructuring in this country so that all parts of the federation will grow at their own pace and have control over their resources”.
The Chiefs Council, he said was alarmed at the spate of violence and insecurity in the country, stating that although both state and federal government were working hard to stem the tide of violence, there was need to redouble efforts to allay fears at this time of election.
King Jaja who is also the Amanyanabo of Opobo, noted that Rivers State had borne the brunt of violent and inconclusive elections in the past, but prayed that security agents would be professional and to not join the fray to further complicate the situation.
He declared that universal acceptance of elections rested on the tripod of free, fair and credible, and wished the president and his campaign team success.
Speaking at the event, Muhammadu Buhari assured that the general elections will be free and fair without intimidation.
President Buhari who is also the presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) reiterated that all votes would count in order to avoid any act of violence, stressing that no ballot box would be snatched during the elections.
The President called on the traditional rulers to collaborate with government to fight insecurity and hinted that law enforcement agents have been directed to ensure that all Nigerians are respected during the election
