Ogonis Give FG Ultimatum Over Sack Of NDDC Director. Steve Okeke
The General Assembly of Ogoni people has condemned the sudden removal of Mr. Derek Mene as the Executive Director of Finance and Administration in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Rising from its meeting held at the Suani Bani Hall in Bori, convener of the Assembly and Leader of the Conscience of Ogoni, Chief Gani Toba, said the removal of Mene was a slap on the conscience of the Ogoni people.
He told newsmen that the Assembly had resolved to send a strong protest to the President to recall the Ogoni son to his position at the commission.
President of KAGOTE, Dr Peter Meede has however accused the Minister of Transportation and former Governor of the State, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of instigating the removal of Mr. Mene from the commission.
Meede in a radio Interview in Port Harcourt said he was aware of the constant threats by Rt Hon. Ameachi to remove the former EDF from his position because of Mene’s support for Senator Magnus Abe’s governorship ambition.
The University don also accused the former Governor of high handedness and vindictiveness against the interests of Ogoni people, stressing that Amaechi had taken his disagreement with Senator Abe too far to the extent of destroying Ogoni interests.
He expressed dismay that the former Governor has arrogated to himself the status of an overlord who should not be challenged, wondering how the same position occupied by an Ogoni man was taken away and given to a cousin of the Minister.
The Vortex recalls that the former Executive Director of Finance and Administration in NDDC was recently dropped from the board and replaced by Mr. Christian Amadi.
