Nigeria Records 87m Poor …Borrows N7trn In 3years Steve Okeke
The vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, says over 87m Nigerians are within the poverty bracket in the country.
Obi gave the statistics during a town hall meeting held in Port-Harcourt with the Igbo community in Rivers State.
According to the PDP vice presidential candidate, a great number of the population had in the last 3years fallen into abject poverty due to the poor economic management of the present administration in the country.
Obi stated that at least 6 Nigerians slipped into the poverty line due to loss of jobs, as according to him, industries and factories have been folding up in the last three years.
The former Governor of Anambra State said over 12m Nigerians are presently out of jobs, adding that in 2018 alone, 5m Nigerians fell into unemployment, while 21m young school leavers are unemployed.
He lamented that the present dark economic outlook of the country has caused parents to continue to shoulder the burden of catering for their children even after graduation from higher institutions.
He alleged that due to maladministration, the present government has borrowed over N7 trillion in 3years, almost equal to the amount borrowed by the PDP in 16years and appealed to the Igbo residents in the state to support the PDP to take over government in the country.
Also speaking, Sir Celestine Omehia, who represented Rivers State Governor Barr. Nyesom Wike, called on the Igbo to vote for their own in order to ensure their welfare and economic advantage.
The former governor stated that Governor Wike was fully in support of the Atiku/Obi ticket and would ensure it is realized in the February 16th presidential election.
Chairman of the occasion, Senator Ben Obi, enjoined Igbos in Rivers state to vote massively for the PDP to ensure the restoration of the country.
